Donate Old Cars to Charity

If you have followed this blog for any period of time, you will know that I have two things that I talk about with affection; my beagle, Ralph and my 1995 Nissan pickup truck. The truck has great sentimental value (well, of course, so does Ralph) to me. It was the last vehicle that I drove my late mother in for many years before her death. Plus, this old truck has been a faithful partner to me over the years. But, the truck is getting on up in year, just like its owner. I had considered selling it about two years ago. But, when the seller showed up, I backed out. I just could not do it.

I have been reading with great interest about "donating old cars to charity" of late. There is one charity called "Purple Heart Car Donation Program." The program is to benefit wounded and/or disabled veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. These vehicles go to veterans who have won the Purple Heart due to their service to our country. Many of these veterans are destitute. The federal government, traditionally, has always neglected its wounded warriors. I can identify with that since I am a Vietnam War Era veteran. I've seen first hand how Vietnam Vets were neglected. I am seriously considering donating my old Nissan truck to this worthy charity. The truck is driven about twice a week right now. I mostly drive it on weekends when I take Ralph for his weekly walk in the park. It would be hard to let go of this truck. But, I see this charity as a most worthy endeavor. It's something I feel in my heart that is the right thing to do. Still, I've backed out before.

There is a huge list of organizations that accept car donations. Click here for a big list of places to check into. Another good place to donate an old car is the Make A Wish foundation which accepts Wheels for Wishes. All these charitable organizations are worthy of consideration. But, for me personally, the Purple Heart organization makes the most sense. I am trying to convince myself to part with my old truck. It needs to be done. Now, I just have to convince Ralph about it. He will not ride in any vehicle but that Nissan truck of mine!

Herman Cain Responds To Morgan Freeman

You will rarely see me make a political post on David's Musings any longer. I have a political blog (The Right Commentary) that I am currently trying to get off the ground. I don't really think this is a political post. But, I find that I have to respond here to actor Morgan Freeman's rant against the Tea Party. Morgan Freeman is one of my absolute favorite actors in the world. He is as fine an actor that you will ever see. His performance in "Shawshank Redemption" was one of the best I've ever seen. He is widely heralded for his philanthropy.

But, where Mr. Morgan gets in trouble is when he starts trying to get into something he knows little about; politics. Don't get me wrong. Morgan Freeman is entitled to his opinion. He is entitled to what he said when he called the Tea Party "racists." Where people like Mr. Morgan often go astray is when they comment on something they know little about. GOP candidate Herman Cain took Morgan Freeman to task for that "racist" comment about the Tea Party. Mr. Cain made note that most critics of the Tea Party (such as Morgan Freeman) have never even been to a Tea Party event.

Morgan Freeman stated on Piers Morgan show that the Tea Party's, "...stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What's, what does that, what underlines that? Screw the country. We're going to do whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we're going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here." Of course, that is patently false. Is it true that the Tea Party wants to defeat President Obama in the November 2012 election? Absolutely yes! But, does that make them racist? Does it make white people, who voted for Obama in 2008, but are now not voting for him in 2012, racist? Are blacks racists for voting for Obama by a 95% margin racist because they are voting on skin color? Please. Andrew Breitbart currently has a $100K challenge for anyone to provide video evidence of racist comments at Tea Party events. So far, no takers. The Tea Party is feared by those on the Left because they see them as a political force that scares them. People often say and do the irrational when they are scared someone will upset the status quo. I feel this is exactly what we are witnessing from the asinine comments of people like Maxine Waters and, now, Morgan Freeman.

The Patriot Act Summary

I must shamefully admit, that I didn't know very much about the Patriot Act until I read the following story "FBI is on Your Cell Phone" at the World Net Daily. Admittedly, WND is even further to the right than I am. They are really into conspiracies, such as the Obama birth certificate controversy. I'm just not interested in that sort of thing. To each his own. Back to the topic...a brief summary of The Patriot Act is in order. "The USA PATRIOT act, its full name being the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001, is an eight section act meant to increase the powers of law enforcement agencies in the USA." That is a very vague summary given to basically any interpretation that law enforcement desires.

The reason I bring this up is that story from World Net News. The story reports how the FBI can listen in to our private conversations on our cell phone. I was always aware a technological savvy country, such as the USA, could do it. But, what I didn't know is that our government will do it if they feel it is justified. All this comes back to the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign that basically is similar to Nazi Germany having citizens report on potential seditious acts of others during that time. History has a bad habit of repeating itself. It seems we learn nothing from the lessons of history. This is just another little chip at the liberties we take for granted...until we wake up one day to discover those liberties are gone.

Chances are, you and I will never be eavesdropped on by the FBI or any other law enforcement agency. But, it does give one reason to pause when you consider they can do it. That's what bothers me. It is an open invitation to abuse by law enforcement. Don't tell me law enforcement or government agencies are not above abusing the law. Again, history is replete with lessons of such.

The Right Commentary - Political Blog

I have only casually mentioned here that I have a new blog that I have been working on as of late. It is a political blog called "The Right Commentary." Yeah, it's a bit presumptuous of me in that some people will say that it is the wrong commentary. I expect that. The political blog is an outgrowth of this blog. I have made political posts in the past on David's Musings. But, since I reopened this blog, back in February, I have stayed away from politics and focused on personal issues in life. I have waited until now (about making mention of it) to see what kind of traffic I would get. Right now, I'm getting about 30-40 visits a day. Sometimes it spikes up to 100 a day. I'm not sure if that is search engine bots crawling or active, unique visitors. In any case, I created this blog slightly over two weeks ago. I've made a total of five posts and am trying to find time to create more than just two posts a week.

This new political blog is open to all viewpoints unlike some political sites on the Entrecard network. I am a conservative and make no bones about it. In fact, I make it a point to warn people I will be politically incorrect on The Right Commentary. I've caught hell here about my views on the biggest scam of our time (global warming aka climate change aka anything climate whackos want to call it), President Obama and Obamacare. I don't care. If you can't or are unable to defend your views, you may not want to visit me on my new political blog. However, if you are up to civil discussion, I invite you to visit me on The Right Commentary. I don't care what your political views are. If things get too heated, we can just agree to disagree. If we all agreed on everything, it would be a dull, dull world.

On a note more inline with this blog, you may have noticed guest posting this past weekend. I've decided to accept guest posting for this blog to add more content here (and to help me out also). This past Saturday it was about weight loss and Sunday it was a religious post. I plan on accepting guest posting for weekends (if "The Price is Right"). Just something I have decided to do on this old blog. I hope you enjoy this new feature on weekends.

True Fiery Mountain of Moses

The following post is a guest post by Bill Hunt. If you have any questions concerning this post, please contact Mr. Hunt by clicking the link at the end of this post.

------------------------

This mountain today is known as Jabal Al Lawz, towering 8465 feet as the tallest mountain in Midian. It is located about fifteen miles east of the ancient city of Madian, now Al Bad. The mountain is not a volcano, nor is it volcanic rock. The rock is a red metamorphic granite, externally burnt. Broken open, the rocks display pink coloration. In the noon day sun, the burnt black rock turns a hue of sapphire blue. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke bellowed up from it like a furnace as the whole mountain trembled violently (Ex 19:18).

The smoke bellowed up from it like a furnace as the whole mountain trembled violently (Ex 19:18).

On the east side of Mount Sinai, the twelve tribes of Israel encamped on a 10,000 acre plain, the Desert of Sinai. Around the mountain, Moses placed markers every 400 yards as limits to the people not to go near the fiery mountain (Ex 19:12). Coming down toward the foot of the mountain, one observes the remains of Moses altar showing the pens for the livestock connected to the altar, itself. The Hebrews sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, sheep, goats, and cattle (Ex 20:24). Surrounding the altar are the remains of twelve, smooth, white stone pillars. Moses arose early in the morning, built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and set up twelve strong pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel (Ex 24:4).

The scriptures tell how Moses endured a forty day fast, talking with God. When the Lord finished speaking to Moses, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony (Ex 31:18). When Moses with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the elders, ascended the mountain, they saw the blue hue of the rocky summit in the noon day sun, explorers still see today. Under their feet the ancients described something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself (Ex 24:9-10). The Hebrews, impatient for the return of Moses, returned to their familiarity with Egyptian gods and celebrations. They fashioned a huge altar to a golden calf god and inscribed the rock base of the altar with several other Egyptian cow gods (Ex 32:4).

Weight Loss With Hypnotherapy

The following post is a guest post by Colin Winston Aldridge. If you have any questions concerning this post on weight loss, please contact Mr. Aldridge by clicking the link at the end of this post.

-----------------------------

Ask a majority of persons pretty much anywhere and they'll let you know one of their primary goals in life is to slim down. And this can be understandable considering that significant percentages of people inside the U.S., U.K. as well as other nations are thought to be obese. Actually, weight loss is an obsession for many Americans as noticed by the advertisements for fat loss supplements, eating plan plans, books, and exercise machines.

But what do these folks actually need so as to lose weight? Lots of of them must address their way of life, which truly signifies addressing incredibly deep and personal troubles associated to why they eat and when they eat. For exactly the same cause that shopping for clothes a size too little doesn't make you magically slim down, just shopping for an workout machine does not make you get in shape. Finding to the bottom of the cause for the behavior could be the important to definitely seeing outcomes.

The deep challenges that lead to people to become overweight and remain overweight stem from various various kinds of points. Some individuals are programmed to self medicate from a young age. They eat to help them handle sadness, anger, loneliness and fears. Some people consume to mask the deep feelings of insecurity and inability to fit in that they feel. And others eat for the reason that they're addicted towards the rush they feel immediately after eating.

Identifying the factors that an individual chooses to eat can make every one of the distinction in his or her fat loss. This is why hypnotherapy is usually rather an useful therapy to help slim down. Even attempting self hypnosis for weight reduction could be a beneficial measure to positively impacting the inner causes that someone overeats.

This state is usually a heightened awareness that will allow the patient to take suggestion a lot more readily. Through the session, the hypnotherapist will recommend changes to behaviors and attitudes towards food and towards the patient’s own self that will assist them overcome their temptation to consume all the foods they once could not say no to.

Crazy Harry Reid

Crazy Harry Reid was back at it yesterday. The Senate Majority leader from Nevada (why didn't you people vote this clown out?) talked about a burning issue of the day. No, it was not about the high unemployment numbers, the economy that's doing a "take two" dip in the red or even the national debt. No, what Crazy Harry Reid was talking about is the importance of bike paths! That's right folks. Good old Harry Reid. You can always count on him to do or say something stupid as hell. To quote Crazy Harry Reid, "Well, for most Americans, [bike paths] are absolutely important. It's good for purposes of allowing people to travel, um, without burning all the fossil fuel on the highways." There you have it. Is it any wonder why Americans are fed up with Congress and politicians as a whole? Harry, here is a clue for you, right now Americans are more concerned with paying the mortgage and finding work! What a ridiculous waste of time. In fact, what an incredibly waste of humanity the entire Legislative and Executive branches of government are which we have in the USA.

But, speaking of Crazy Harry Reid, let's look at some quotes from this wizard of stupidity. "This war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything." --Crazy Harry on the Iraq War. "Obama is light-skinned and has no Negro dialect." Crazy Harry on the chances of Obama being elected President. "I think it would take a real stretch to think that I caused the problems with the economy." --Crazy Harry in probably one of his more delusional moments. “My staff tells me not to say this, but I’m going to say it anyway, in the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it’s true.”
Harry Reid, Senate Democrat Majority Leader, 2008 on what he thinks of the people that pay for his room and board.

I could list more on Crazy Harry Reid. But, I think you get the picture.

Reflections on 911

This is a post I should have made on Friday since I only post twice a week now. I also post twice a week on my new political blog (The Right Commentary). So, as usual, I am a day late and several dollars short. But, it is better late than never, especially for a day that will always live in infamy for Americans. I suppose everyone can remember where they were on September 11, 2001. I know someone who said he was taking a shower, came out of the shower to see his wife in tears. He asked her if she was still mad at him about making an ass out of himself at the office party the previous night. She turned to him, with tears in her eyes, and said, "America is under attack." My friend said those words would haunt him for the rest of his life.

Me personally, I was at a Shoney's Restaurant in Florence, Alabama with my wife (ex-wife now). We were leaving and I noticed everyone was watching the TVs that were stationed overhead. I saw one tower on fire. But, I thought this was film of the '93 WTC attack. As I recall, the terrorists who did that were in court during this time. It was only when we got home that I realized that this was one of those days that you would remember all of your life. My wife and I could not take our eyes off the TV all day and into the night. I felt great sadness for the thousands of people I knew had perished. I also felt great anger for the scum that did this to our country. It seems that our enemies always take our wish for peace as a sign of weakness. Japan made that mistake in WWII. Osama bin Laden and his fundamentalist zealots made the same mistake on 911. One thing about this country; in time of war, we come together as one. Age, race, religion, natural origin does not matter. If you attack one of us, you attack all of us. I am positive al qaeda did not expect the kind of response they have received over the past ten years.

I thought about how much of my life has changed since that day in September of 2001. I've had a divorce, suffered through Hurricane Katrina, had a near death experience with an emergency gall bladder operation and an assortment of life events since 911. Life goes on despite our deep sadness over the loss of life. But, in our hearts, we never get over something as traumatic as September 11, 2001.

Waiting at the DMV

As many may know, the state of Alabama has passed legislation that would make it the toughest anti-Illegal alien bill in the country. That bill is on hold as a federal judge decides the legality of this legislation. But, one of the byproducts of this law makes waiting times at the Drivers and Motor Vehicles even longer than usual. That bill is on hold until September 27th and I decided Thursday morning I better get down there and renew my drivers license now. The place opens at 7AM. So, I got up early Thursday morning and left home about 6:50AM. I thought I could get through the morning traffic fairly easily. That was my first mistake.

Now, after I finally got there, I noticed there were few, if any cars. So, I'm thinking I got this thing beat. I won't have to wait very long. I got to the Driver's License Renewal line and there two windows open. There were customers at each window, but only one person (a cop ironically enough) in line. So, I waited about five minutes before I got to an open window. I'm thinking to myself, "This is going too damn easy." Nature abhors a vacuum. Something had to go wrong here. And that is exactly what happened. The lady at the DMV took my picture for my temporary drivers license. And, all I needed was for it to print out since I had already paid. I was waiting...and waiting...and waiting. She had a problem with the printer. Of course, something had to go wrong. I knew it was too good to be true. The lady told me I would have to wait for the technician to come and fix the damn thing. I was quietly asking, why the hell does this always happen to ME??? So, as expected, I wind up waiting about two hours at the DMV. Just not for the reason usually associated with this stupid "must do" in life.

The only good thing about it is that the lady and her supervisor both came to me with my temporary drivers license and profusely apologized. I was a little touched by that. What's even more important to me, unless I buy a new car, I don't have to go back to the DMV for another four years to renew my drivers license!

60th Birthday

It seems impossible to me. But, there is no denying the fact that September 6th, this Tuesday, is THE day. I will be 60 years old. It just doesn't seem possible that I could be that old. And, yet, I am about 24 hours away from that event taking place in my life. It seems like only yesterday when I celebrated another milestone of my life, my 50th birthday. Ten short years later, here I am. Do I feel old? With the exception of my back problems and blood pressure, I'm doing just fine. Yeah, I could stand to lose about 25lbs. I imagine most people my age wish they could do that. Where have the years gone? Was it last week I was in Vietnam as a young 19 year old kid in Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam? Wasn't it just a couple of days later I was at the shipyard in Pascagoula, MS working as an electrician? I know it was no more than a couple of months ago I was playing in the 12-14 age group of Little League Baseball. I couldn't have gotten this old this quick. Or have I? Again, it's just not possible.

Where is that little boy that loved football so much, even though he was too small, too slow and just not very good. There is so much about life you wish you could go back and change. There are things I have said and done I wish I could do a "do-over" somehow. But, I will not be afforded that luxury. You have to accept the mistakes and failures in life in order to move on past them. Sometimes, in life, there are simply no answers. There are just questions that you ponder upon until you take your final breath.

Yeah, I guess I'm getting a little too sentimental on this upcoming event on Tuesday. I will have a small party of about 3 people to celebrate, possibly to even commiserate with on this day. I just know that things have come and gone far, far too quickly. Or maybe not quickly enough in some respects. There are lots of people who never got the chance to live as long as I have. One such person is my little sister who lived to be just 25 years old. Her life was just beginning. Mine is winding down. Don't worry. I've feel better after Tuesday, I promise!

Ned Kelly Biography

Yesterday one of the trending topics was about Ned Kelly's headless skeleton being identified. I thought that was all well and good. But, I did not know who the hell Ned Kelly was until I started reading about him on the web. He has had at least two major films made about him, one in 1970 and another in 2003. Somehow I missed those films. He was an outlaw by choice and a hero to the masses in Australia for fighting the British colonial authorities. He killed three policemen. Regardless of his rationale for killing, he is to be condemned for doing that. The police were simply doing their duty. Anyway, after 130 years, his remains have been positively identified despite most of his skull missing.

Ned Kelly led a gang of robbers who robbed banks and killed people from 1878 to 1880. He had been buried at an unmarked mass grave. Hard to believe it was so important that they had to go through most or all the bodies to identify this outlaw. Australians are proud of Ned Kelly in the same way a lot of Americans are proud of outlaws such as Jesse James and Billy the Kid. Personally, I never could understand the romantic nostalgia for a cold blooded killer. But, that's just me. Everyone is different. Regardless, I learned something new yesterday. I had never heard of Ned Kelly until I saw him trending on Yahoo and Google. I wager Ned never thought he would be this famous 130 years after his death even if it was for just one day.
