It’s hard to believe, but this little blog is one month old today. At first, my intention was to make this blog entirely private to a select number of individuals. I was encouraged to “open it up” to the world. I went over and over in my mind about whether I wanted to share thoughts, reminiscing, rants to the entire world. In the end, I decided to accept my late friend Barry’s advice and make this blog public.
So, with that in mind, I had to find a place to “blog”. I first checked out Wordpress. It was nice. But, it just didn’t feel right to me for some reason. I’m not sure why. Live Journal? No, that wasn’t going to work either. There were plenty of places to blog. But, I chose Blogger for several reasons. The main one was due to a sense of community here. I read a lot of blogs and it seemed that everyone seemed to like it here. So, I made my blog space right here.
I went from less than 10 visits a day in the first week to just over 500 hits this past Saturday. 200 hits was a good day for me up until Saturday. The only thing I did differently is add meta tags in the template with some keywords. Other than that, I’m not sure. I submitted my url to dozens of search engines, directories and forgot about them. I joined Traffic Swarm right after I started this blog. But, after never seeing any appreciable traffic surge, I gave up on them. I guess I don’t have any more “credits” left.
In any case, this is something I have really enjoyed. I’m not sure I’ll be able to go 1-3 blogs a day as I have this first month. I’ve read how people get burned out on blogging. I hope that doesn’t happen to me. I don’t think it will due to the fact I enjoy “writing” and putting my life experiences, opinions and rants in print. In fact, I got a review on Link Referral that stated “your blog is a bit wordy…and it’s all about you”. Gee, ya think? (laugh) I thought that was what personal blogs were all about. I’m trying to cut back on being too “wordy” in my entries. I’m not sure if I’ll be successful. Continue dropping in to see if I succeed. Congrats on your one month anniversary! Don't worry about the person who said your blog is wordy and about you. It's refreshing to see a blog from a man simply discussing his life. So many are on here to make money somehow.
Congrats. You are doing well. You have to follow your own stars. I breeze through a lot of blogs and yours stands out. So it doesn't surprise me that you are getting a lot of hits. I am curious about the meta tag stuff because I have never figured that out. Maybe I ought to do that. You think?
Nadine, thanks for dropping by. I try to be self-effacing in some of the blog entries I make here. But, it's tough to do when you are the one telling the story. I have a lot to say, I've been all over the world several times. I just want to share my experiences in the written word. Sometimes that seems "wordy" to people. I try not to do that. davidlind, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate all your kind words. you know, after I put in those meta tags, with the keywords, I read where most search engines (including google) ignore them. I was astonished by that. As I said, I went to Traffic Swarm to get folks to visit my blog. But, it didn't seem to work. If you need help with the meta tag stuff, go to google, type in "meta tag generator", and you'll get all the information you need. It's worth a try. I'm still trying to figure out how it happened last weekend. It has to be more than just meta tags. Thanks for the comment and come by any time.
